Shoulder problems

I have not been able to do much blogging lately. I have a recurring shoulder problem; initially it was caused by using different workstations when I was a temp. I first wrote about it here.

The main problem was the length of the mouse lead but by the time I discovered what was causing the pain in my shoulder and arm it was too late. I suffered with adhesive capsulitis ‘frozen shoulder’ for almost a year, after lots of exercises and time away from a computer I did get the movement back. Unfortunately I have never really recovered and the pain can become severe at times. I am only able to write for short periods so I cannot minute meetings at work (sometimes that is a good thing!). I have been set up at work with a special keyboard with an integrated mouse. I would love to have one at home but it is expensive to buy at home I use a Kensington trackball instead of a mouse.

A couple of weeks ago my trackball broke! I had to go back to using a mouse but could only use it for very short periods. I had to wait a few weeks before I was able to replace it as I needed to get to a large city to buy one. My new trackball is even better than the last one as it is optical; the previous one had problems with dust getting caught on the small wheels inside so as this one is optical that problem is gone. If anyone does have shoulder/arm/wrist problems I recommend getting this type of ‘mouse’ as it stays still on the desk so there is no movement in the shoulder.

Photohunter - Bright

For Photohunter this week the subject is bright. I am posting photos taken on a very bright sunny day when I went to Lyme Regis in Dorset.

My son and I were invited by a band to go with them and play on the sea front at Lyme Regis. Playing in a brass band at the seaside sounded like a wonderful thing to do so off we went. It was a perfect day, bright, warm and sunny.

We arrived at the allotted time but unfortunately there were no chairs for us to sit on, phone calls were made and the person responsible finally tracked down, about half an hour later the chairs arrived. We played for an hour then went to get some lunch, most people headed for the fish and chip restaurant so we went too, we sat outside and ate the delicious fish and chips.

We then played again in the afternoon and after packing up had an ice cream before leaving to go home. On our way back to the car we met the man from the council who was previously responsible before he retired for ensuring the chairs were there, he had heard what had happened and apologised, as I told him it wasn’t his fault as he no longer worked there and he didn’t have to apologise.

ABC Wednesday - V

V is for HMS Victory

HMS Victory is the Royal Navy's most famous warship.
She is the world's oldest commissioned ship and a proud memorial to Vice Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, Britain's greatest Naval hero.

HMS Victory is one of the most famous warships ever built. Built between 1759-1765, Victory was a first-rate, ship-of-the-line.

In 1805, Vice Admiral Lord Nelson on board his flagship, HMS Victory, led 27 British ships into battle off Cape Trafalgar against a much larger combined French and Spanish fleet.

Thanks to Nelson's inspired leadership, the British won a great victory and the Battle of Trafalgar has become a defining moment in our history. But Nelson paid the ultimate price - struck by a single bullet as he paced the quarterdeck with his captain, Thomas Hardy, he survived just long enough to learn the outcome of the battle.

ABC Wednesday - U

U is for view from Underneath

and U is for the village of Ubley in Somerset on the north side of the Mendip Hills.

Playing in a brass band we visit lots of summer fetes at various villages and schools, my son remembers the Ubley as it was the first fete he played at, he was about 10 years old. He now visits Ubley to teach.
