Me on Monday

Waving from a still cold Somerset, this weekend was extremely windy and wet, just the sort of weekend for staying in, which I did. At least we were warm, my son came on Thursday evening and managed to get the boiler going after 5 days with no heat.

So this weekend was spent with organising and editing my photographs for project life - I am working on 2011 which I finished this weekend and sent off the photos for printing,  and catching up with programmes that I had recorded.

Me on Monday

Waving to Sian and everyone reading my blog.

Monday again and this week finds me in a cold house as the boiler has broken down again, unfortunately I think this is the end and I will have to have a new one fitted.

A quiet Saturday catching up with some project life, reading and sorting through old magazines.

My sister and brother-in-law came on Sunday afternoon and he chopped down a hazel tree in the garden which was taking over, having a small garden there just is not room for trees that grow and spread.

He will come back later in the year to dig out the stump then I can plan some new plants for the area.

5 in 5

For my 5 in 5 this month more photos from Sherborne Gardens which I took a few weeks ago.  As well as all the snowdrops there were lots of crocus as well.  These photos were all taken from the same place.

Me on Monday

Waving to Sian and everyone reading my blog, another weekend has gone by!

Saturday was a trip to Bath to meet with a friend I haven't seen for many, many years (we could not remember how many), she was visiting Bath for the weekend so it was an ideal opportunity to meet.
We have kept in touch over the years writing letters but it was so nice to see each other again.

We found neither of us had visited Bath Abbey so that's where we went after lunch.  A beautiful place to visit, while we were there a choir was rehearsing for an evening performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion so we sat for a while and enjoyed the music.

Interesting facts about Bath Abbey:

  • Three different churches have occupied the site where the Abbey stands since 757 AD
  • Edgar, the first King of England was crowned on the site in 973
  • Sir George Gilbert Scott completely transformed the inside of the Abbey between 1864 and 1874, he replaced the wooden ceiling with the stone far vaulting - see photo above.

Sunday was a relaxing day, my daughter visited for the weekend and cooked a very tasty vegetarian lasagne and baked a lovely calorie filled cake!

Today was a trip to Westbury so that my daughter could catch a direct train home and it saved another trip to Bath.  I took Tara for a walk by the White Horse in the rain, the site is near military land and the army were on manoeuvres so it was like stepping into a war zone complete with jets flying above.

Just picture me walking a dog that jumps when someone closes a car door outside, she actually did very well and if she is not desensitised now from loud noises she never will be.  There were a lot of other dogs being walked taking no notice of the bangs they looked like they were used to it.

A happy Tara in the rain

Pairs

My Pairs post this week is a zoom in zoom out from the garden I visited on Saturday, see my Me on Monday post for more photos.

I love to see snowdrops -  to me they mean spring will arrive even when the weather is still cold.

Me on Monday

Another weekend is over, waves to Sian from High in the Sky and everyone taking part in Me on Monday.

Saturday was sunny but with a cool wind, it warmed up around lunch time but the wind got colder as the day wore on.  I was pleased the sun came out as I went on a visit with the local Horticulture Society to Sherborne Garden, near Radstock which was built by the owners Pam and John Southwell.  They have been opening the garden under the NGS (National Gardens Scheme) for charity for 30 years.

It is a long woodland garden with winding paths through the trees which I loved.

Of course going at this time of the year the garden was full of snowdrops as well as heather.

The garden is opens in February and again in July link here for opening times: Sherborne Gardens.

We all said we would love to return in a few weeks when the daffodils are all out and again in April to see bluebells and the trees starting to come into leaf.

Sunday I started looking into my Family History, I sat down at the computer after lunch and five minutes later it was 4 pm!  Tara was jumping up and down telling me it was time to go out and I  could not believe how fast the time had gone. I concentrated on my Mum's side of the family as there has been a lot of research already done on my Dad's side.  I discovered I have two great uncles I didn't know about and I really want to find out what happened to them.  Unfortunately there are no relatives left on my mother's side of the family to ask so I will have some investigating to do.

Today was another visit to my friend for a crafty get together, we discussed the fact that we really should start doing some crafts instead of eating cake and chatting!

Pairs

For my Pairs post this week we are looking up and looking down.

Looking up at the branches and their fascinating shapes against the sky

Looking down at the bottom of the tree is a micro world of moss, ivy, rocks and
new growth pushing up through the earth

Me on Monday

Waves to Sian at From High in the Sky and everyone else taking part in Me on Monday.

Today was a vist to a friend to meet up with a couple of other friends, this is supposed to be a get together to do crafts.  Mostly we chat and eat cake!  This week I did do some knitting, I am knitting myself a pair of gloves.

Saturday 9 am I was in B & Q to buy paint for my living room.  My friend had sent me a text the evening before to let me know that paint was on special offer at £10 for a 2.5 ltr tin instead of £17.84. I have bought 2 tins for the living room and 2 tins for my bedroom hopefully that will be enough.  Decorating will commence in the Spring (hopefully).

I also went to the pet shop as I was dangerously low on Bonios (dog biscuits) and while there I picked up a treat for Tara.

As I was in Glastonbury a took a photo of the Unitarian church so that I can complete a geocache puzzle.

Sunday was a day resting as I had severe backache - probably from lifting tins of paint the day before so I caught up on reading blogs and watching TV programmes I had recorded.
