This path follows the route of the old railway track, the railway line and station were closed in 1963 by Dr Beeching who effectively cut off many rural town and villages in the UK by closing down 2,218 stations and causing the loss of more that 67,000 British Rail jobs.

ReplyDeleteWe have the same problem here. At least in the U.K. the easements are common ground that people can walk upon.

ReplyDeleteEven we have heard of Dr. Beeching. Maybe that is why you have so many excellent veteran railways? At least he left you a seemingly excellent path, if nothing else.

ReplyDeleteIt makes a beautiful trail! Somewhere I'd love to walk and take photos. I'm sure it was horrible to lose the easy transportation and the jobs, however. I really wish that rail traffic would have a rivival in our country.
