Summertime Scavenger Hunt 3

Here are some more of my finds for Rinda's Summertime Scavenger Hunt:

No. 1  A sign welcoming people to your home town.  This is not my home town as I do not live near where I was born (London) - I did live in Wells for 26 years and visit often as my friends live there.

Wells is the smallest city in the UK
You can just see Wells Cathedral - this photo taken next to the sign.

No. 2 - A garden gnome

Spotted in my Aunt's garden

No. 9 - A bakery

Lots of delicious sandwiches and cake can be purchased here, their main bakery is in Glastonbury, this is their branch in Wells.  I used to treat myself to a sandwich once a week when I worked in Glastonbury.

No. 14 - A parade
The air force cadets marching at a local show.

No. 18 - a waterfall

No 19 - A public garden

The last four photographs were taken at Forde Abbey a house and garden open to the public.

I still have many more to get so check back to see more.

ZIZO - week 28

I belong to the local Gardening club and we visit gardens during the spring and summer, these are excellent opportunities for me to take photographs of flowers which I love, also perfect subjects for Zoom  In, Zoom Out.  Here is what I spotted last week:

A lovely place to sit

This is what caught my eye - I would love one of these!

Photohunt this week is Orange.

When I moved house I brought some of these Lilys with me but unfortunately they have not grown. I do miss them and will have to buy some more.

Snow

This morning it snowed for a couple of hours so I went into the garden to record the rare event. By lunchtime it had turned to rain, then the sun came out in the afternoon.

Oriental Poppies

These oriental poppies have been a wonderful sight in the garden for the last couple of weeks.

Unfortunately they have been battered by the wind and rain.

Green Thumb Sunday

The flower of the herb chive is very beautiful when viewed up close.

Flowers

My garden is fluourishing, I am still waiting to see what pops up, the previous owner of the house was a keen gardener so the garden is quite established.

Spanish Bluebell, this is one of my favourite flowers and I brought quite a few with me from my previous garden, I have left them in pots and will plant the bulbs in the autumn. It is related to the English Bluebell which are a protected species now, a woodland full of bluebells is a beautiful site.

Pulmonaria - which I brought with me, I only brought one pot as it spreads quite a lot.

This is a beautiful shrub - but I don't know the name!
It had orange berries in the winter, if anyone can tell me what it is called I would be really pleased.

Lytes Cary

Visited Lytes Cary Manor this afternoon, this is a small manor house, once the home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, he created a botanic garden but unfortunately there is now no trace of the garden. The Manor house was built by the Lyte family who owned the property for 500 years from the 13th to the 18th century.

Spring flowers under the trees

There is a small cafe where we were able to enjoy a cup of tea and cake, there are also plants for sale but I didn't get tempted this time.

Rounded topiary yews leading from the front door,
these yews stand tall looking like guards .

We went on the riverside walk, although the weather was dull it did stay dry.
I took quite a few photos but it was not ideal being so dull.
