Saturday was a quiet day at home, Sunday was a trip to Clevedon for the Great British Greyhound Walk.  This is held annually all over the UK where greyhounds (and sometimes other sighthounds) get together to walk.  The walk we attended was organised by GRWE the rescue that Tara came from.

5 in 5

I am joining Sandie this month with her meme 5 in 5.  The idea is to take 5 photographs in 5 minutes.

My 5 in 5 comes from Torhill Woods in Wells, Somerset where I went for a walk and to collect a couple of geocaches with my trusty geohound Tara.  She turned out not to be such a good geohound this time as she refused to step off the path and into the woods - all those leaves and twigs did not impress her, so in the end I only managed to get one geocache.  I didn't want to force her off the path as she was recovering from her pulled muscles and I didn't want to aggravate it.

Nice to sit and watch the world go by.

The cache I did get was called 'Could Be Scotland' due to the highland cattle.  I like that the sign is the same as the cows.

Walk and Geocaching

A very hot day on Wednesday, we were going to go to Winscombe to walk along Strawberry Way but I thought there would be little shade.  Instead we went to Mells to Colliers Way.  My son took his bike (we had to use 2 cars) and Tara and I walked and I took photographs.

We decided to look for some Geocaches while we were there.

The first Geocache was in among brambles and nettles - a winter cache I think.  My son then went to find the cache called 'End of the Line' and came back with the cache.

Is the cache this way?

It's a lovely place to walk, I hope to go back in the autumn or winter to find more.

Visit to Kingston Lacey

Some friends and I visited Kingston Lacey at the weekend. It is near Wimborne in Dorset. The house and garden are set in 250 acres of wooded parkland. After eating our lunch in the sunshine,we went on one of the woodland walks which took us past the Japanese Garden, quarry garden and Cedar walk. The weather was sunny and warm, it was so enjoyable walking in the sunshine. In February there is a beautiful display of snowdrops, I would love to go back next year and see them.

The house is 17th century house designed by Sir Robert Pratt for Sir Ralph Bankes to replace his ruined family seat at Corfe Castle; it contains a collection of Old Master paintings with works by Van Dyck, Titian and Brueghel collected by William Bankes, there is also an exhibition of Egyptian artefacts from 3,000BC.

Lytes Cary

Visited Lytes Cary Manor this afternoon, this is a small manor house, once the home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, he created a botanic garden but unfortunately there is now no trace of the garden. The Manor house was built by the Lyte family who owned the property for 500 years from the 13th to the 18th century.

There is a small cafe where we were able to enjoy a cup of tea and cake, there are also plants for sale but I didn't get tempted this time.

We went on the riverside walk, although the weather was dull it did stay dry.
I took quite a few photos but it was not ideal being so dull.
