I have visited these woods many times but I have never noticed this marker stone before:

The date on the stone reads 1766

I know I have passed this way before, it must be due to the lack of foliage at this time of the year that made it more visible.

A short tour around Glastonbury this week.

St John's churchyard looks delightful at this time of the year with all the daffodils blooming.

The Gauntlet is a walkway leading from St John’s car park  to the High Street, there are an assortment of specialist shops.

 The Coffee Bean serves the usual coffee and teas, lunches and Somerset cream teas.

Serendipity sells a wide range of handmade products made by local artists.

Enchanted Florals claims to be a magical florist with rustic designs selling bouquets, plants and floral arrangements.

Very grey skies all this week, it has rained every day, yesterday we had, rain, hail, sleet and snow with a strong wind and it has been quite cold.  What happened to spring?

Blackbirds are getting busy in the garden, I haven't seen them much during the winter, it is nice to see them back again.

 and flowers are starting to appear, spring is on the way at last. It feels like it has been a long winter.

Mothering Sunday

It is Mothering Sunday here in UK, while I wait for my son and his girlfriend to arrive I have been looking at the photographs from last year when we went for a walk at Blagdon Lake.

 Unfortunately we won't be going for a walk today as my back is causing me too much pain to walk far.

Big Garden Bird Watch

Today it was the Big Garden Birdwatch organised by the RSPB. Each year the RSPB encourage people to count the number of birds visiting the garden for an hour over the last weekend of January.  I have taken part for the past few years.  What makes it sad this year is there were so few birds visiting my garden, the numbers have declined since we had all the snow and cold weather.  It may be that more people are feeding birds in the cold weather, I hope that is the case.

 

I have entered my numbers on the RSPB site, it will be interesting to see the overall results in a couple of months.
