Memos, Mail, Me

Waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

Monday has arrived again all too quickly!

A new harness for Katie arrived in the post this week, I am finding it difficult to keep altering the size of her harness when she wears a coat due to arthritis in my hands so the solution and a bit extravagant was to buy another one.  Here she is keeping guard while I look for a geocache in her new purple harness:

This weekend I returned to Colliers Way for another walk along the route of the railway from Frome to Radstock, I enjoy these walks as they are mostly flat.   We arrived early and found it is well used by joggers in the morning, it was lovely being out in the sunshine after all the rain we have had.

Memos , Mail, Me

Waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

Well it was a birthday weekend for us, Katie had her 4th birthday on Saturday so it was a weekend of lots of squeaks, she loves squeaky toys and had three new ones!  I think her jaw was aching from spending so much time making the toys squeak.  Here she is opening one of her presents:

We went for a walk on Saturday and found a few geocaches, we went to an area where I used to walk my dogs when I was a teenager so it was a trip down memory lane for me.

I went out all dressed up for a cold morning but it got warmer as the morning went on so I was peeling off the layers as we walked along, it was good to be saying goodbye to the colder days and to see the new growth and spring flowers.

No exciting mail for me this week.

Mail, Memos, Me

Waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

Another weekend when we have stayed home due to the weather.  The temperature has not risen above freezing with a strong east and then a north-east wind.  Katie and I have had some bracing (but not long) walks.  We woke up to a little snow on Saturday but although we had snow flurries all day it soon disappeared.

So any interesting post this week?  Yes, in the post last week arrived a magazine that I subscribe to - I get the subscription with my Tesco club card coupons so it doesn't cost me anything except the money I would have spent anyway, I usually buy all my petrol with my Tesco card.

The magazine is full of spring items - so good to read on the cold winter days, I like the variety in the magazine with articles on gardening, baking, wildlife and craft.

Mail, Memos, Me on Monday

Waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

So something exciting arrived in the post this week!  After many months of internet problems with it dropping out several times a day and many phone calls to BT they finally decided it was the Hub that was faulty and have sent me a new one:

It was all set up and I have had no problems since, today they rang to ask if all was ok and I was pleased to be able to say yes.  It will be such a relief as it often stopped working as things do when I was doing important things and it became very frustrating.

The weekend was cold and wet and I had no car as it had gone for MOT repairs so a stay at home weekend watching recorded programs, knitting, processing photos for printing and just generally relaxing.

This photo sums up our weekend:

Mail, Memos, Me: Monday

I didn't post last week for the start of Sian's new meme for 2017, it's called Mail, Memos, Me - as I had not received any interesting mail in the preceding week.

This week has not been very exciting either:

Yes it is time to get my eyes tested although I don't go to Boots anymore as the branch closed down in my town they still send me reminders, Tesco have sent me coupons for items I never buy and probably never will!   The other letter means the car tax is due, along with the car tax is the dreaded MOT (for non UK readers the MOT is a test to make sure the car is safe and roadworthy).  So the car has had its pre-MOT, it need some work but nothing too expensive.

Maybe this week I will receive something exciting, maybe not, we will see.

This weekend Katie and I went of for another trip to the village of Mells, I like going there as there are plenty of places to walk and best of all a lovely cafe for after the walk.  I introduced some friends to the village in the autumn so I am sure we will be visiting again together.

It was frosty but the sunshine was warm, perfect walking weather.

Memorandum Monday

Happy New Year to all my readers!

So a New Year has begun.  I haven't quite got into the excitement of new plans or anything yet.  I have been unwell since Christmas, mostly fatigue (part of the fibro I have) and now I have a cold!  I certainly hope 2017 will be better than last year, it was quite a difficult year for me.

I don't make resolutions so I cannot break them!

Christmas was busy this year, my daughter and her partner came to stay for 5 days the week before Christmas, we had a family get together while they were here, Christmas day was spent with my son and his girlfriend.  Yesterday I drove to the airport in the pouring rain to drop off my son who has gone to Spain for a week.

Thanks go to Sian for hosting Memorandum Monday all through last year.

Snap - Christmas lights

This week is the last Snap - thanks go to Helena for hosting it all through the year.  I have not aways posted every week due to my very slow computer and slow internet connection but I have enjoyed looking for photos with a theme.

To finish the year I am still in festive mode so I am posting photos of Christmas lights that I have seen on my dog walks in the evening.

These photos are also my first photos for Eileen's Winter Scavenger Hunt no. 11 A photo taken outside at night.

If you would like to join in click on this link for all the details.

Snap - Christmas windows

Snap is Helena's meme where we keep a look out for up to four photographs to make a visual set.

I have not been very good with posting my Snap photos for several weeks, often the posts are ready and I forget to post them.  I must use scheduling more often.

This week I took these snaps of Christmas windows in my local town, I like the effect of the reflections as well.

This is a shop for local craft people to sell their makes although they only accept goods from artists with an art degree!

The knitted ornaments are made by the knit and chat group.

Memorandum Monday

Monday again so waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

Not too much happening this weekend, it was very cold with a biting north east wind so we didn't venture far.

The only  new happenings were Christmas lights going up on houses in the area, new to Katie who just looked and looked wondering what it was.  It will be Katie's first Christmas in a home so it will all be new to her.    I remember Tara's first Christmas, it didn't take her long to work out how to open presents!

Memorandum Monday

Monday again so waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

A very dull cold weekend, a visit to my Aunt in Wells, I took Katie for a walk before we went, a new walk for Katie but new in a way as the season has changed so it was very different from my last walk which was in the spring.

The Christmas tree is being trimmed up again, I must remember to visit again nearer to Christmas as more decorations are added each week.

I blogged about the tree last year, if you want to see the photo I took then it is here.

A short visit to a local garden centre to get some inspiration for Christmas presents (not very successful).  I do enjoy seeing the Christmas displays.

Memorandum Monday

Monday again so waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday so I went to Wells to see my son playing The Last Post, he played three times - once at the War Memorial at the church, again at the memorial to Harry Patch (who was the last surviving combat soldier from the World War 1) which is near the museum and cathedral and again at the cemetery in Wells.

For the first time Richard played a bugle that he had made - it had a good sound.

Afterwards we went for a well deserved cuppa in Waitrose

Memorandum Monday

Hello to the Monday bloggers,  no post last week as nothing new!

This week I have discovered another new place to walk through geocaching.  It was the Greyhound Rescue Christmas Fair on Sunday and I noticed there was a geocache on the old Somerset and Dorset railway line not too far from where the fair was being held.

It turned out to be a paved path in between two villages, perfect for a walk.

At the entrance to the path were metal sculptures on the fence.

There were more sculptures along the path

It was a very enjoyable walk, I always like walks along the old railway routes as they are nice and flat!

Also new Katie has a new coat to keep her cosy in the winter months.

5 in 5 - The Beach

Linking with Sandie at itchifingers  the idea is to take 5 photographs in 5 minutes.

My 5 in 5 photos this month were taken on Katie's first visit to the beach.  It was not a planned visit, it was such a beautiful day and not too cold so I decided to drive to Uphill which is a village at the southern end of the the beach at Weston-super-Mare.

Brean Down

The shadow shot!

Looking the other way towards Brean Down

I wasn't sure how Katie would react as she is quite often anxious in new situations but after the first few minutes she settled down and we went for a lovely walk.

This autumn we have had some lovely sunny days, here are some of the colourful trees I have seen while walking Katie.

Snap - Benches

Snap is Helena's meme where we keep a look out for up to four photographs to make a visual set.

A trio of benches this week - the photographs were taken at different places I have visited this year.

I stopped here to look for a geocache - a village called Stalbridge

A trip to Tintern Station with my son and his partner, we had a picnic lunch then went for a lovely walk along a path through the woods.

An outing to the Holbourne Museum in Bath with my friends, well worth a visit.

Memorandum Monday

Hello to the Monday bloggers, late with my post this week.

Autumn has arrived and my thoughts turn to crochet and knitting, I don't know why but I rarely knit in the summer months. I should as there is more daylight!

So what is new?  A new crochet hook for me this week.

I bought this yarn last year to make a crocheted snood (cowl) and didn't start it, I made one for a friend but didn't get mine started.  I made a start and was struggling with the crochet hook getting it to go smoothly through the yarn, the hook is plastic and I wondered if I could find a size 7 hook made of steel and I did!  It is much easier to use so I should have my snood finished soon.

Memorandum Monday

Monday is here again - waving to Sian and the Monday bloggers.

So what was new for us this weekend?  Saturday was a beautiful sunny day so I decided to go on a longer walk.  A new walk for Katie, I returned to Mells to walk along the the Colliers Way which was the old railway route from Frome to Radstock, this time I went in a new direction so it was new for me too.

Along the route we came across an old boxcar that had been left on the railway line, it was really interesting to see how nature has taken over and interwoven through all the metal.

Memorandum Monday

Monday again so waving to Sian and all the Monday bloggers.

We had a quiet weekend at home, relaxing and catching up.  Katie has found a new way to relax:

Greyhounds like to sleep upside down - it's called 'roaching' but this position is half way.

We went on some local walks to see how the new houses are progressing in the fields where I used to walk Tara, I know new housing is needed but I do prefer the fields.
